Timothy D. Walker, Sr., also known as The Horn Blowin Preacher, delivers the new sound of JOSPEL, a combination of gospel music and jazz. A native of Chicago, Walker recently completed his CD entitled, Ears Have Not Heard, which was released in spring 2008. Currently, his music was featured locally throughout Illinois and internationally, with appearances in Nigeria, Liberia, Panama and Trinidad/Tobago.
Walker started his musical journey at Wendell Phillips High School under the tutelage of renowned jazz pianist Willie Pickens. He also played sax and piano with his church choir under the direction of Dr. Robert E. Wooten, Sr. from the Wooten Choral Ensemble. Walker attended Fayetteville State University in North Carolina, where he received his bachelors of science in music education.
Walker received his teaching certification and began teaching instrumental and choral music. While working for public and private schools in Chicago, he was appointed musical director for The Rainbow PUSH Organization, where he coordinated music for the weekly forums and the national conventions. Walker is a well-qualified musician, declares Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr.
Walker also was a music consultant and clinician for the Archdiocese of Chicago in many of the local parishes. He has performed and recorded with Darius Brooks, Walter Whitman and the Soul Children of Chicago, the Wooten Choral Ensemble, Chicago Housing Authority Gospel Choir, the McDonalds Gospel Choir, Angela Spivey, Brian Jones and Chosen, the Chicago State University Community Jazz and Concert Band, Rex Peel and Testimony.
Such accomplishments are a testament to this maestros unyielding faith. In 1980, Rev. Walker was called into the ministry and was ordained as a gospel preacher. He currently serves as assistant pastor at the New Life Ministry Church in Chicago where Bishop Lannie and Pastor Phyllis Arnold presides. His goal is to spread the message of Jesus through music and preaching.
His association with Onstage allows audiences to enjoy and experience a new sound in music. The Horn Blowin Preacher is bad, says former WNUA radio personality and promoter, Denise Jordan-Walker. Where has he been hiding with all this talent?
Mr. Walker is presently the musical director of the Mahdi Theater Company hit production Chicago Bronzeville the Musical. |
