I am both a saxophone player and repairman for 35 yrs in Berkeley Ca., and am the owner of Steve Deutsch Woodwinds, Etc. where I deal in repair, books, instruments and lessons.
I presently play with Johnny Tolbert & DeThangs playing Oakland funk and blues, and lead the Steve Deutsch duo playing original music, Monk, Guinga and whatever else strikes my fancy.
Playing Soprano, Alto, and Tenor I have my own sound and approach, a combination of having studied with Ali Akbar Khan and Johnny Tobert, and playing all kinds of music, Bach, Beethoven, Monk, Jobim, Choro, Tango, Blues, Jazz. Anything that my curiosity leads me to.
In my shop I do it all, overhauls, dents, soldering, and have worked for Joe Henderson, Junior Walker, Noel Jewkes, Jules Broussard, Sam Phipps, Donna Viscuso, and many more. I've done work for musicians all over the United States
