Alastair Penman is a saxophone, clarinet, piano and ewi performer and teacher, currently based in Manchester. Alastair is a highly experienced performer in both classical and jazz genres, having held the post of principal saxophonist in Cambridge University Chamber, Symphony and Jazz Orchestras whilst he studied for his BA there. Alastair has also played principal clarinet with the Beethoven Ensemble and CUMS 1 (the Cambridge University flagship orchestra). He has had the pleasure of working under the batons of conductors such as Sir Roger Norrington, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Baldur Bronnimann, David Hill, Peter Stark, Stephen Cleobury amongst others.
In a jazz setting Alastair has performed with many big bands and small jazz combos and has played with musicians including Mike Gibbs, Steve Waterman, Mark Nightingale and Issie Barratt.
Alastair is currently studying a masters degree at the Royal Northern College of Music with Rob Buckland, supported by scholarships from the RNCM and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust.
Alastair is also in demand as a teacher, offering private lessons from beginners to post grade 8 level on saxophone and clarinet, and up to grade 6 on piano.
